Free places
Students can apply for the last available places for worldwide destinations. The specified conditions and procedure must be observed.
- There are no more places available in the ETH-wide programme.
- Only a few places are still available in the departmental programme (programme type: see list of worldwide partner universities).
- The places are primarily for the Spring Semester 2026. In consultation with the departmental exchange coordinators and the Student Exchange Office and provided that the deadlines of the partner university allow it, applications for the Autumn Semester 2025 are possible until 10 February 2025.
- You can only apply for free places at one partner university.
- You need the approval of your departmental exchange coordinator.
- You must also fulfil all requirements and conditions for a worldwide exchange as well as those of the respective partner university (in particular the required grade point average and, if applicable, language certificates). If the submission deadline for the language certificate has already expired, you must submit the certificate with your application.
- Check whether you fulfil the above conditions.
- Check the search portal to identify universities with places available (under exchange programmes "Worldwide Exchange - ETH-wide Agreements" or "Worldwide Exchange - Departmental Agreements").
- Disuss your plans with your departmental exchange coordinator and get their approval. You need their approval before you begin the application.
- Download Follow the instructions for the application process and submit your complete application (PDF, 219 KB).
- Inform the by email so that your application can be reviewed promptly.
- First come, first serve: The Student Exchange Office allocates the free places according to the date of receipt of the complete and correctly submitted applications in Mobility-Online, which the departmental exchange coordinators must check and confirm promptly.
- Once you have informed the outgoing team of the Student Exchange Office of your completed application by e-mail (fifth point under application procedure), the Student Exchange Office will inform you by email whether the place can be allocated to you.
